Workforce Challenge

Workforce Success Story Submitted By: Employment Services

Joana, 16-year-old female and sophomore student at the local high school desired to secure a concurrent enrollment slot with the community college to be trained as a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) summer of 2022. The school unfortunately only has so many slots to give out and Joana was not selected for one of those slots. Her counselor referred her to Employment Service of Weld County to see if there was anything that could be done to assist her.

Workforce Solution

Youth Employment and Training Navigator who is assigned to Joana’s school and provides services to their students met with Joana to discuss her options. After completing an initial assessment, Joana was found to meet Workforce Innovation Opportunities Act eligibility and was enrolled in April 2022.

Outcomes & Benefits

During the summer months of June and July, Joana completed her CNA training at Aims Community College. Just two days before her 17th birthday, she took her state testing, and as of 10/03/2022 and she is now a certified nurse assistant! She has since returned to high school for her junior year and is ready to start working evenings and weekends as a CNA.
