Gezel, 20-year-old, female, had just moved to Colorado from Oklahoma. She came with a small bag of clothes and with big dreams! She was offered a couch to sleep on from an old high school friend and was given the advice to visit the workforce center to receive assistance in getting her on her feet. Gezel stepped into Employment Services of Weld County and met with a Youth Employment and Training Navigator where she talked about those big dreams to become a dental assistant and be self-sufficient.
Her Youth Employment and Training Navigator addressed barriers such as her homelessness (couch surfing) and immediately placed her in a work experience at a dental office so to get a source of income started. Within 20 days of Gezel moving to Colorado, she was working at a local dental clinic and enrolled in a Dental Assisting Certificate program.
