Workforce Challenge
Workforce Success Story Submitted By: Pueblo Workforce Center
Hope came into the Pueblo Workforce Center for job search assistance after being laid off from a call center job. She was waiting for unemployment benefits, she had lost her husband, and was desperate to find a job.
Workforce Solution
After reviewing her work experience and skills, she was encouraged to apply with a company that had a job opening that aligned with her skills and experience. Hope looked into the job and felt her typing skills did not meet the minimum qualifications for the position The Pueblo Workforce Center career services team helped her with Mavis Beacon to practice her typing skills. Hope practiced every week day over two weeks. She then completed a practice test. Although the results fell slightly short of the minimum requirements for the position, she was encouraged to apply for the position. Hope returned to the workforce center and shared that she had been granted an interview. A few days later she came in and told us she was going to get a second interview. After the second interview, she came in to tell us she got the job and that after waiting 16 weeks she was receiving unemployment benefits.
Outcomes & Benefits
Hope was almost in tears when she came to the workforce center to share that she got the job and that she had NEVER made more than the minimum wage her entire life. Her starting wage was going to be $15.00 an hour during the 4 weeks of training and after training, she would receive pay increases as she progressed in her position.
