Workforce Success Story Submitted By: Workforce Boulder County
Katie was looking for a career change. She had over 20 years of working in the health care field as a certified occupation therapy assistant and activity director in assisted living facilities but had reached a point of burn out and needed a change. She was apprehensive about changing her career track at this point in her life but knew that her physical and emotional well-being were on the line at it was time to start a new career.
Workforce Solution
Katie was about to enter training with Delta as a flight attendant when Covid-19 made its appearance and all new hiring by airlines was halted. Katie was back to square one - with no job and no direction. She came to Workforce Boulder County for assistance in obtaining Unemployment benefits and received help in that regard. However, she also connected with the Workforce training staff and was able to access the many virtual workshops offered by WfBC. Additionally, Katie was able to take computer classes through the Workforce Boulder County Virtual Computer Training Center - upgrading her skills and knowledge in computer applications.
Outcomes & Benefits
Katie used her newly acquired knowledge and skills combined with her past experience to find a position in front office administration as a Patient Representative. Katie says, "over the past 6 months I have taken 29 computer classes (via WfBC Virtual Computer Training Center) and attended 18 zoom workshops. .... Thank you (Workforce staff) for all your support and encouragement, your time and assistance - especially in helping me transition my resume from chronological to functional. I didn't even know there was more than one type before taking your class! Your passion and heartfelt concern for helping is genuine - Thank you again for all you do!"
