Cindy had not been employed for several years due to an injury. By the time she was able to work again, the COVI-19 pandemic was underway, and she was unsuccessful at finding a job. Her previous work experience included clerical and administrative skills that needed to be updated.
Cindy was enrolled in the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) Adult program at Employment Services of Weld County (ESWC). Cindy completed several skill assessments in the Assessment and Learning Center housed within ESWC. Cindy also worked from the ACT curriculum to build up her clerical skills. Cindy experienced a setback when she admitted herself into a 30-day addiction treatment facility to overcome an addiction. Once Cindy completed treatment, she continued to do outpatient counseling and looking for full-time employment. An employment opportunity within the Weld County Department Human Services (WCDHS) Community Outreach unit’s Emergency Rental Assistance (ERA) Program became available. A program that provides rental and utility assistance for individuals impacted by COVID-19 that are unable to pay their rent or utilities. Cindy’s case manager suggested attending several workshops that would allow her to update her resume and prepare for job interviews.
Cindy attended the suggested workshops and applied for the ERA Program Service Coordinator position through the COResponds work-experience program and successfully completed the interview process. Cindy is working 29 hours a week with WCDHS, which allows time for her to continue her counseling. She has been able to learn new skills while on the job and her confidence has increased. She continues to learn about programs and resources available to the community to assist her on the path to full-time employment.
