Workforce Success Story Submitted By: Employment Services of Weld County
Julius was a dishwasher at a local restaurant. Due to the pandemic and the Governor’s orders to shut down, in-person dining Julius was reduced to two hours of work a week. With bills still coming in, such as phone and car insurance, and drastically reduced income, Julius needed additional sources of income. With many of the typical areas youth find employment impacted by the pandemic executive order closures, this was a difficult task for Julius.
Workforce Solution
Employment Services of Weld County’s Youth Program team saw the employment need, not only Julius but many local youths in the same boat. With Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act funding, the Weld CARES 4 Youth Workers program was created to assist with enrolling youth into paid work experience placements for those youth who were impacted by COVID-19. An individualized assessment was administered to determine where his interests lay, and Julius registered for the Weld CARES 4 Youth Workers program.
Outcomes & Benefits
Julius was enrolled in the Weld CARES 4 Youth Workers program. His case manager evaluated the results of the individualized assessment and it was discovered that Julius had a great interest in the Automotive industry. His case manager worked with a local automotive dealership to connect the two. After the 120-day program period ended, the dealership offered Julius a permanent position and added him to their payroll, as they could not see him leaving their team! Julius was able to increase his income during the pandemic and scored himself a position in an industry he desires a career in!
