We had a GED student come in the day before our GED graduation was being held, to finish his last subject test. When he arrived, the computer we had set up for him crashed and we were unable to get him logged in. The student was stressed out and on the verge of melting down as this was a very important accomplishment for him.
The students WIOA case manager, the GED instructor and the Professional Services staff all got together to work with the online support for GED to get him logged into a different computer. After a long day of stress and frustration the student was able to test.
At 1:00am the morning of the GED graduation, the students test results finally posted showing he had passed. The staff who had worked with him the previous day were able to contact him and he was able to walk for his graduation ceremony. This was such a benefit to the student who had faced many barriers throughout his life. From this success he has learned that good things can happen when you don't give up. He told our GED instructor that all of the stress was worth it because the outcome was exactly what he needed.
