Workforce Innovation Submitted By: Workforce Central
Community Challenge/Problem
Pierce County experiences significant competition from the surrounding areas in enticing businesses to locate to the area. Businesses needed to see the immediate value of not only the services offered by the economic development team but also the rich talent pool available to them as an employer.
Board Solution/Innovation
WorkForce Central partnered with the Economic Development Board for Tacoma-Pierce County. They designated a liaison between the Workforce Central New Business Recruiting Team and the EDB, providing various services that ranged from research supporting workforce development to community partner connections. Together, the team identified a number of target businesses and assisted them in 2014.
Outcomes & Results
A number of employers were assisted through the partnership. Amazon accessed labor market economic analysis, conducted multiple hiring events at Bates Technical College (arranged by WFC), and was assisted with recruiting and hiring 481 employees.
Niagara Bottling accessed a customized, detailed labor market economic analysis, hosted presentations, and held two hiring events. Seven Manufacturing Academy graduates were hired at the first hiring event.
Finally, WFC assisted the Western Institutional Review Board with customized recruiting for their professional staff, advertising through multiple media.
