Established in 1986, R. W. Gillespie & Associates is an employee-owned corporation with headquarters in Saco, Maine. The organization provides high-quality, professional services in geotechnical engineering, construction materials testing and inspection, and environmental sciences such as geohydrology.
However, getting incumbent workers and new employees up to date on skills and certifications has been challenging.
Workforce Solution
Use of the On-the-Job Training program at Workforce Solutions and Coastal Counties Workforce, Inc., has been instrumental in helping R.W. Gillespie's competitiveness. Jean Graunke, business manager for the company, has been very receptive to the program. Working with business services staff from Workforce Solutions, Jean has had workers complete four on-the-job training contracts and three customized trainings.
Outcomes & Benefits
These services have supported both new hires and incumbent workers of the company by allowing them to receive valuable training. This training enabled skills upgrading and support with hands-on learning activities. For example, the construction materials testing technologist at R.W. Gillespie was supported with hands-on training while workers earned a Soil Aggregate Inspector Certification. This training helped the individuals be successful and bring more skill to the work of the company.
