Workforce Success Story Submitted By: State of New Mexico, Dept. of Workforce Solutions
Workforce Challenge
Hannah* was 21 years old and was a single mother with five children. She dropped out of high school in the tenth grade and had few job skills and no diploma. She was receiving TANF benefits and was referred to Workforce Connection of Central New Mexico for assistance in completing basic education and finding employment.
Workforce Solution
Hannah's age meant that she was still eligible for the Summer Youth Program. Through youth services, Hannah was able to take classes to complete her basic education and obtain her GED. In addition, WCCNM assisted Hannah with a part time job placement to help her gain work skills.
Outcomes & Benefits
Hannah is working part time at Jackson Hewitt Tax Service as an office manager. She is helping to provide for her family and has stopped receiving TANF benefits.
