Missouri - Bemis Company, Inc.

Workforce Success Story Submitted By: Workforce Investment Board of Southwest Missouri

Workforce Challenge

Bemis Company, Inc. is a global supplier of flexible packaging used in the food and pharmaceutical industries and pressure sensitive adhesive coated materials used by label, signage, medical and graphics companies. As a team-based company, Bemis employees learn every aspect of the production facility from the ground up, and it is critical that each new employee entering the company has the right combination of mechanical, electrical, and printing skills. Bemis turned to its local Workforce Investment Board (WIB) in Joplin, MO to alleviate the time-consuming interview process required to validate these skill sets.

Workforce Solution

Bemis has developed its own comprehensive interview process, which includes InterviewStream in the Joplin, MO Career Center. The WIB utilizes this tool to help determine if candidates are a good fit with a company's culture.

Outcomes & Benefits

The use of virtual video interviews helped narrow the field of candidates from 36 to a short list of nine, saving 1,000 hours and $3,500 in costs for Bemis. HR Manager Suzanna Baucom said, "We appreciate the WIB for providing the latest in recruiting technology. Each candidate is scored on each step of the interviewing process, from their resume to the final behavioral interview, with the video interview being a vital part of the process. It saved us tremendous time and money."
