Workforce Success Story Submitted By: Pikes Peak Workforce Center
Workforce Challenge
Tiffany was an unemployed single mother of two who was dependent on TANF services. She had her high school diploma, but no formal training beyond that. She did not have employment nor reliable transportation.
Workforce Solution
Tiffany’s goal was to work with social services. She stated that she loved helping people and wanted to work with children in need. TANF funds were used to assist her with car repairs. Tiffany was placed in an On-the-Job Training (OJT) as a Case Aide II with Teller County Department of Social Services from November 2019 to March 2020. Her training included learning how to supervise visitations between children and their parents, documenting her observations, and taking hotline calls for reports of abused or neglected children.
Outcomes & Benefits
Tiffany earned incentives for 30 days on the job, and again for successfully completing her OJT and becoming hired on. Tiffany received positive evaluations from her supervisor during the course of the OJT. At the conlusion of training, she had a full schedule supervising visits and had earned a pay increase. Her supervisor reported that Tiffany took initiative and followed through with tasks well. Tiffany successfully completed her OJT and was hired as a permanent employee in March 2020 earning $16.78 per hour, which is considered a living wage by CW Step standards.
