Workforce Success Story Submitted By: Employment Services of Weld County
Workforce Challenge
Shaela, whose parents’ work hours were cut due to COVID, needed income, and many of the places that usually hire youth (food and non-essential retail) were currently closed.
Workforce Solution
Employment Services of Weld County’s Youth Program, seeing a need from many young individuals in the same boat, created the Weld CARES 4 Youth Workers program, which utilized Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act funding to assist with a work experience for those youth who were impacted by COVID-19.
Outcomes & Benefits
Shaela was enrolled in the Weld CARES 4 Youth Workers program. Shaela’s career goal is to become a veterinarian. Weld CARES was able to place Shaela on this career path by placing Shaela at the Milliken Animal Clinic. Shaela really enjoyed the experience and learned so much throughout her work experience. Upon completing her hours, the Animal Clinic hired Shaela as a permanent employee.
