Meet Robin

Virginia - Meet Robin

Workforce Success Story Submitted By: VCCS

Workforce Challenge

Robin Peade had 20 years of experience in the manufacturing sector and had had the unfortunate experience being laid off twice. She was determined to embark on an entirely new career as an administrative assistant. This was a tall order for a technology-challenged woman who had barely even turned on a computer, let alone owned one.

Workforce Solution

As someone who'd experienced two layoffs from a declining industry, Robin easily qualified for services under both Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) and WIA. She enrolled in computer courses using this funding. As it turned out, she caught on very quickly and worked through the summer to finish her studies. Additionally, she received training services provided through the Region 2000 Career Center.

Outcomes & Benefits

When a job as an administrative assistant became available at the Career Center, Robin’s case manager told the hiring manager she had a good candidate to recommend. Robin was interviewed and got the job.

“She came to work only 10 short months ago. It seems to us that she has always been here,” said Deborah Alfers, center director.
“What a tremendous asset Robin has been. Who would have thought that we would help ourselves so tremendously by helping her?"

Congratulations, Robin!
