Workforce Success Story Submitted By: Oahu Worklinks City and County of Honolulu
Workforce Challenge
Richard was in his late 50s and was motivated to find work, but he had been unemployed for a long period. He was interested in upgrading his skills to work in the new jobs in the renewable energy industry. Richard qualified for On-the-Job training under a National Emergency Grant program.
Workforce Solution
Oahu WorkLinks provided for Richard's training as a Photo Voltaic Installer with funding from the State Energy Sector Partnership grant. Richard completed his training and received his certificate from Solar Training Institute. Oahu WorkLinks developed an On-the-Job Training agreement for him with Schenk's Electrical. He completed this training as well and continued to work as an Electrician Helper earning $15 an hour.
Outcomes & Benefits
Richard finds his new job working with photovoltaic installation very satisfying. His employer, Schenk's Electrical, is happy with Richard's performance, stating that "he is a meticulous, professional staff member that brings value to the team." Congratulations, Richard!
