Workforce Challenge
After working 25 years at the same location, Mark was earning a good salary at a local manufacturing plant. At 47, Mark planned on working out his time at the facility and looked forward to retirement. Much to his surprise, Mark discovered that the manufacturing facility would shut down its operations and move overseas. Job prospects in his profession were not promising.
Workforce Solution
Mark decided to seek new job skills in the high demand health care field. He took advantage of the TRADE funds and enrolled at a community college seeking an associate degree in the Respiratory Care Technology program. He quickly adapted to his new environment and took pride in his pursuit. Mark fulfilled his internship requirements and graduated from Volunteer State Community College in October, 2011.
Outcomes & Benefits
Mark was able to secure a position with a local hospital as a Respiratory Therapist. He has found a new profession that he loves and and is earning over eleven thousand dollars more than he did in his previous career.
