Workforce Challenge
Lafonda Bagby worked in a Residential Group Home for the Disabled for three years as a Residential Counselor. Lafonda assisted disabled adults with their daily living skills. She was laid off due to a change of ownership within the organization. Lafonda is the mother of three (3) children, ages 8, 16 and 20 years old. Struggling to make ends meet, Lafonda worked hard to seek employment to help support her college-bound child.
Workforce Solution
When Lafonda came into the One-Stop Career Center she was unemployed and receiving unemployment benefits. She had limited skills which were impacting her ability to find a self-sufficient job. After meeting with a counselor, Lafonda was approved to attend training to become an Allied Medical Assistant.
Outcomes & Benefits
Lafonda graduated at the top of her class and was offered employment with Virtua Memorial Hospital in Mt. Holly, NJ, three weeks before graduation. She currently works in the Emergency Room Department as a multi-skilled technician, assisting doctors, nurses and patients. In addition to receiving credentials as an Allied Medical Assistant, Lafonda obtained National Certification as a Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA), certifying her in Phlebotomy and as an EKG Technician. Congratulations, Lafonda!
