Workforce Challenge
Kentrella faced some of the same obstacles and peer pressure that many of today's youth are facing. She was a rising high school senior but had limited experience to prepare her for entering the workforce after graduation.
Workforce Solution
The Job 1 Summer Youth Program, funded through ARRA, helped Kentrella obtain placement at the Westbank Business and Career Solutions Center. While there, aside from gaining practical work experience, Kentrella needed the experience of having assigned hours, tracking her time, coming to work daily, and following workplace protocol. At the Center, she assisted with basic clerical duties. After completing the summer program, she was enrolled in the Jefferson Parish WIA Youth Program to continue her career development.
Outcomes & Benefits
This year, Kentrella is maintaining good grades as a senior at Algiers Technical Academy and is a member of the Jefferson Parish Youth Council.
