Meet Joyce

Ohio - Meet Joyce

Workforce Success Story Submitted By: Lorain County Workforce Development Agency

Workforce Challenge

Joyce was laid off from her job as a production helper at a polymer materials manufacturer in February 2009. Realizing that production work was not a growing career field, she knew that she needed retraining in order to change careers. Joyce felt that the healthcare industry provided the best opportunities.

Workforce Solution

Joyce received information about the Employment NetWork when she applied for her unemployment benefits. She utilized the resources and staff at the Employment Network to help identify the right career for her - nursing - and then received assistance in finding a training program that met her needs. The Employment Network was then able to provide Joyce with the WIA funding needed to enroll in the Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) program at Cuyahoga Valley Career Center.

Outcomes & Benefits

Joyce graduated in June 2010, only 15 months after losing her job and starting upon a new career path. She obtained her state license and landed full-time employment at the Westlake Village Retirement Center in September, 2010. When asked to comment on her experience with The Employment Network, Joyce shared, “It was very worthwhile, as I would not be where I am today if it were not for the services of the workforce system.” Congratulations, Joyce!
