Workforce Challenge
The road to becoming Colorado State University bound did not come easy for Jordan. For many high school seniors, the thought of life after high school is filled with mixed emotions and uncertainty of what the future will hold. As a first generation student, Jordan aspires to become an Engineer in hopes to provide for his family in ways that he once thought were not possible. Jordan applied to CSU in hopes of being admitted to his dream university. Right after fall break, Jordan confronted one of his biggest fears as he opened his admissions letter from CSU—rejection.
Workforce Solution
For students who have experienced rejection from their top college, an easy way out often becomes accepting the the situation and giving up on their dreams, but not for Jordan. He exhausted all resources before he connected with Denver's WIOA program at North High School to help him take the crucial and necessary steps to be reconsidered for CSU. Jordan and his case manager worked tirelessly on his appeal application and Jordan wrote a compelling essay stating his worthiness of being a CSU student, which included the following:
“Much like a dice, I ask you to look at all sides of me and consider that I am multifaceted and motivated to succeed at your school. Each side of me holds different but foundational values that ground me as a person and a student. Attending CSU will help me uncover, understand, and unpack the intersectional experiences and identities that make me unique, all while contributing diversity to the CSU campus.”
Outcomes & Benefits
In January 2020, Jordan received an acceptance letter from CSU that will support the trajectory Jordan wants to see in his life, and overall, redefine what it means to be college-bound.
