Workforce Challenge
Hannah had aspired to be a nurse since she was in 9th grade, and was very happy when she was accepted into the nursing program at Northeast Mississippi Community College (NEMCC) in August, 2008. At the beginning of the program, she was focused on obtaining good grades while holding a part time job to pay for school expenses. Juggling the two obligations was stressful until Hannah learned about the Workforce Investment Act.
Workforce Solution
"I have to say this was an answered prayer." shared Hannah. "WIA helped me financially with my daily commute to school and also by paying for many nursing profession fees that await a new graduate." With this monetary help, Hannah was able to focus more on school and stress less about how to make ends meet. Although Hannah greatly appreciated the financial assistance, even more important was the support she received from the Career Center. "As soon as I met my counselors, I realized they were there to see me through the rest of my way through school and on into the workforce," said Hannah.
Outcomes & Benefits
Hannah earned her Associates Degree in Nursing on May 13, 2010, realizing her dream through hard work and determination. With WIA assistance, Hannah, an honors graduate, completed an Accredited Nursing Program and is now ready to begin her career.
