Workforce Challenge
Eva was employed at a local residential electric motors plant for 33 years. She had a stable job and earned a good salary with benefits. She planned to retire from the plant in a few years but was shocked to learn that the facility was closing its doors. At 52 years of age, Eva was uncertain what the future held for her.
Workforce Solution
Eva came to the Barren River One-Stop Center to explore training options and tuition assistance that could assist her in learning new work skills. She enrolled in the Registered Nursing curriculum at Western Kentucky University determined to fulfill her dream of becoming a registered nurse.
Outcomes & Benefits
After receiving her nursing degree, Eva was able to find employment with a medical hospital. As the result of a lot of hard work and determination, Eva not only got the job as a registered nurse, but she is earning over nine thousand dollars more a year than she did at the electric motor facility. Having a good education has provided Eva with a new job in a career that she had only dreamed of.
