Meet Chad

Georgia - Meet Chad

Workforce Success Story Submitted By: Job Training Unlimited

Workforce Challenge

Chad was referred to Job Training Unlimited office for participation in the ARRA-funded summer work experience program. His teachers reported that he was having trouble getting along with others in school; he was displaying a negative attitude and some bullying-type behavior.

Chad was interested in the summer youth program, mainly as a way to earn money for school supplies and clothing. He also had no work experience and had not been able to find a part time job on his own to earn money to buy these items. He felt a summer work experience would help him build a resume so that he could find part time employment after the summer.

Workforce Solution

Chad was accepted into the ARRA summer youth program and was placed at a local employer, where he was able to work on developing basic job skills and positive work habits. These new skills will help him apply for and obtain a part time position after the summer program. At the center, he also received counseling for his behavior issues, workplace professionalism, and treating others as you would want to be treated.

Outcomes & Benefits

Through his participation in the ARRA summer program, Chad was able to help his parents pay for school supplies and clothes. His case manager assisted him in developing a resume that he could use for job searching. Upon follow-up with his teachers, they told his case manager that Chad was showing a new attitude and had stopped his bullying behavior. "I can't thank this program and my case manager enough," said Chad. "I don't know where I would be today without the program."
