Meet Career Road Trips

Colorado - Meet Career Road Trips

Workforce Success Story Submitted By: Colorado Workforce Center

Workforce Challenge

We have had amazing career fairs in Lake County but wanted to provide a day where students could explore careers at the job sites. Career Road Trips was implemented to provide this learning opportunity to students.

Workforce Solution

This Career Road Trip was focused on the trades. This is the third in a series of five. The two previous Career Road Trips were for law enforcement and cosmetology. This third series included Ferguson Plumbing of Gypsum, Whitewater Plumbing and Heating of Eagle, and Encore Electric of Avon. These companies hosted our group of Lake County High School students. It was an incredible learning day that allowed us to tour the plumbing warehouse and listen to Josh Sibley’s career pathway and the shortage of trades persons in the coming years. Encore Electric allowed us to tour the construction project at Eagle Valley High School, were our hosts for lunch and set up a mini lab for the students to wire electricity.

Outcomes & Benefits

Lake County students were exposed to career pathways, the earning potential, job outlook, the necessary skills for these careers and what it feels like to be on a job site. The employers were incredible hosts and it further establishes the relationship between business, youth and the Workforce Center.
