Workforce Challenge
Billy was laid off from an automotive accessories manufacturer after working there for almost 11 years. He needed to find a new career in a more stable industry, but lacked the necessary skills. He came to the South Central Workforce Council for assistance with returning to college.
Workforce Solution
Billy qualified for WIA Dislocated Worker funding to help him return to school. He attended MN West Community & Technical College (Jackson Campus) and majored in Power Line Technology & Electric Utility Substation Technology.
Outcomes & Benefits
Billy graduated with high honors in May 2011, earning a 4.0 GPA in four of his five semesters, and taking a combined 41 credits during his last two semesters. Billy is now employed full-time at Northwest Iowa Power Cooperative in La Mars.
