Workforce Success Story Submitted By: Employment Services of Weld County
Workforce Challenge
Andrew, a veteran who recently returned from China where he had been for a few years teaching English, was having a hard time finding employment. Andrew had been a truck driver in the past and he wanted to get back into the field. Andrew’s housing situation was unstable, even with obtaining part-time employment delivering pizzas, and needed help paying rent.
Workforce Solution
Andrew’s WIOA Case Manger had him complete a couple assessments to help determine if CDLA continued to be a good field for him which results determined that obtaining a CDLA would benefit Andrew, especially as there is a large labor market for drivers in Weld County. With the help of the Veterans Service to Career Program grant, two months of rent was provided. This would allow him to have a stable living situation while he is in training and looking for employment.
Outcomes & Benefits
Andrew did complete and pass the CDLA training and exam, he then started applying for driving positions, finding employment with an over-the-road truck driving company, and is now making a living wage. He is now focused on rebuilding his life.
