Workforce Challenge
Anastasia came into the WIOA Young Adult Out-of-School Program as a young mother who recently graduated from high school. Her goal was to obtain a job in the healthcare field. She was unsure of what direction she wanted into within the Healthcare Field. After LMI research and career exploration, Anastasia decided she wanted to attend the AHEC Pre-Apprenticeship Program to give her exposure to the Healthcare Field.
Workforce Solution
The WIOA Young Adult Program paid for her to attend the AHEC Healthcare Pre-Apprenticeship Program. The AHEC Healthcare Pre-Apprenticeship program included 21st Century Skills training, healthcare facility tours, simulation activities, and basic healthcare certifications. This Healthcare Pre-Apprenticeship Program is directly connected to the Centura Health Registered Medical Assistant Program. Anastasia successfully completed the AHEC Pre-Apprenticeship Program and earned Bloodborne Pathogens, BLS, CPR, First Aid, Servsafe, Mental Health First Aid and HIPPA Certifications. After successfully completing the AHEC Pre-Apprenticeship Program, Anastasia applied for the Centura Medical Assistant Apprenticeship Program. She worked closely with her Workforce Specialist to prepare for the interview process.
Outcomes & Benefits
Through her hard work and perseverance, she obtained the Medical Assistant Apprentice position with Centura Health making $15 for the first 1000 hours. After a total of 2000 hours, she was earning $15.50. While obtaining on-the-job experience, she concurrently attended classes at Arapahoe Community College to prepare for the Certified Clinical Medical Assistant Exam. At the end of her classroom training, she successfully passed the Certified Clinical Medical Assistant Exam. She is still working at Centura Health as Medical Assistant and is thriving.
