Workforce Challenge
Green Beginnings, a minority and woman-owned business in Roxbury, MA delivers weatherization services to homeowners and businesses. They needed to hire new employees to meet business needs, but were unable to do so because of the training investment required and the cash flow needed.
Workforce Solution
JobNet Career Center, the City of Boston, and the Mayor's Office for Jobs and Community Service collaborated on an On-the-Job Training (OJT) Grant. Green Beginnings was eligible to hire employees under this grant, which would subsidize the employees' wages during the training period.
Outcomes & Benefits
Green Beginnings hired two workers - one an Office Assistant, and the other a Weatherization Technician -- with OJT funds providing salary support for the training phase. Because of the program, two people began new careers, and Green Beginnings filled two critical staff positions which otherwise would have been unattainable.
