Community Challenge/Problem

Using a $25,000 grant provided by the Georgia Department of Economic Development’s Workforce Division, the CWIB/Coastal Workforce Services partnered w/ Step Up Savannah and the Coastal Transitional Center to implement the Coastal Transitional Initiative. Through this partnership these stakeholders partnered to provide pre-employment services to ex-offenders on track to re-enter Chatham County communities.

Board Solution/Innovation

The intensive training program consisted of:

• 16 days, 80 hours of training 
• 40% computer-based learning
• 40% group discussion activity
• 20% one-on-one coaching, employer introductions, financial education, and guest presentations 

Outcomes & Results

A total of 19 individuals participated in the training. Seventeen of these were served through WIA funding. All participants received a joint certificate of completion at the conclusion of the training. Of the nineteen participants, sixteen had found employment prior to completing the program, and all participants have new skills to help the reintegrate into the workforce.
