Last July, an Hispanic immigrant who came to the US as a child, graduated from college, and worked as a software consultant was laid off from her job in the technology industry. As with many others who suffered job loss in this industry, she was in need of new skills to be successful in the pool of competitive applicants.
Workforce Solution
She was connected with a the Idaho Department of Labor's Dislocated Worker services and On-The-Job Training resources via the Workforce Investment Act. In addition to workforce consultants, IDOL has trained business consultants actively engaged in local business communities throughout the state who focus on the development of professional relationships and connecting businesses to critical resources, placing an emphasis in high-growth, high-demand industries. IDOLs in-person connection with the business community, coupled with WIA training funds and our highly integrated approach to both business and job seeker services, afforded this customer the direct opportunity to gain new skills in a high-growth industry: renewable energy.

With WIA On-the-Job training funds, this customer began a job at Inovus Solar, With WIA On-the-Job training funds, this customer is now employed with Inovus Solar, a Boise, Idaho company focused on improving the efficiency and environmental impact of street and area lighting through solar technology. She is learning new and emerging skills for a future in the energy sector, and as an Installation Manager, will oversee project teams to ensure that code requirements are met.
