Young Adult Immersion Program

Community Challenge/Problem

Young Adult Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act-eligible job seekers beginning internship opportunities often did not have the soft skills to be successful at the start of internship efforts. Additionally, there wasn't always a good fit between a specific employer and the young adult job seeker.

Board Solution/Innovation

The Pikes Peak Workforce Center launched the Young Adult Immersion Program. WIOA-Eligible participants are provided nationally-acclaimed work ethic & soft skills training: Bring Your A-Game to Work. The program highlights attendance, accountability, appearance, public speaking, extraordinary customer service and professional communication skills valued in the workforce. Graduates begin a five-day paid business immersion with regional employers.

Outcomes & Results

The program popularity is growing as immersions prove a good fit for both employer and participant, leading into consideration for 150 paid internships with 90 regional employers. Workforce Center funding provides all wages and unemployment insurance during the training/immersion/internship process -- at no expense to participating employers. Current immersions include in-demand opportunities ranging from hospitality and administrative roles to construction and electrical skilled trades.
