Mapleton School District Apprenticeship Fair

Community Challenge/Problem

The Mapleton school district saw a need to teach youth about apprenticeship programs and opportunities for career pathways in skilled trades. They decided to put on an apprenticeship fair.

Board Solution/Innovation

By working with the Adams County Workforce and Business Center to receive a list of local organizations that offer apprenticeships, the event organizer was able to quickly gather information and send invites.

Outcomes & Results

Over a dozen organizations participated in the fair including union and non-union employers with apprenticeship programs, community colleges, and the workforce center. Hundreds of students in their junior year from four different schools attended. The students were very engaged and learned about the many career opportunities and resources available to them.

The event organizer said the school district would host the event again next year and noted that the success of the event was largely due to the help of the Adams County Workforce and Business Center.
