Medical Assistant Hiring Expo

Community Challenge/Problem

The health care community in Colorado Springs was experiencing difficulty finding needed talent in the areas of certified medical assistants and medical office administration personnel. Each healthcare entity was competing to find the needed talent, leading to multiple requests to the Pikes Peak Workforce Center to help locate potential candidates.

Board Solution/Innovation

The Pikes Peak Workforce Center Business Relations Group (BRG) brought together employers seeking medical assistants and jobseekers who had the required certifications and skills. A mini industry-focused job fair, the "Medical Assistant and Medical Admin Hiring Expo," was held at the workforce center. The BRG used its existing relationships to encourage employer participation. Jobseekers with the necessary certifications were targeted through candidate sourcing using the state job search data base and social media, primarily Facebook and LinkedIn. The BRG partnered with their Adult Services Team to target jobseekers who lacked the proper/current certifications to further strengthen the existing talent pool.

Outcomes & Results

Seventy-nine people attended the hiring expo, which hosted 12 businesses that had a total of more than 100 job opportunities available. Six jobseekers requested additional information from the Adult Services Team. The BRG strengthened existing relations and forged new relationships within the healthcare community. The Pikes Peak Workforce Center's Business Relations Group continues to help companies by providing demand-driven services to local employers.
