Connecting with Area High Schools

Community Challenge/Problem

The challenge for the Eastern Workforce Region was building strong relationships with area high schools and increasing enrollment into workforce programs.

Board Solution/Innovation

Colorado secondary schools are mandated to complete an Individual Career and Academic Program (ICAP) for all students. This requirement opened the door for the workforce centers to approach schools and offer assistance for this requirement by using our expertise in resume writing, work search techniques and career planning. Most schools in our region welcomed this assistance and have allowed us to enroll students when we provide mini-career fairs and mock interviews.

Outcomes & Results

As a result of these efforts, the workforce center strengthened relationships with area schools. It has also increased enrollments in employment programs. The center has assisted schools in meeting the requirements of ICAP and most importantly it has exposed young people to the world of work, both currently and for future career endeavors.
