Adams County Youth Job Fair

Community Challenge/Problem

Adams County Workforce & Business Center's Business Services and their Youth Succeed Program work together to identify business that are willing to hire youth as well as provide resources to youth all at one event. Adams County youth can have the opportunity to visit with businesses that are hiring as well as gain information about resources available to them.

Board Solution/Innovation

The Adams County Business Services and the Youth Succeed teams partnered to create their annual Youth Job Fair for youth within Adams County between the ages of 16-21. Business Services recruited 41 employers who are currently hiring youth while the Youth Succeed team was recruiting resources to be available to youth within Adams County. Brighton Small Business Development Center also provided agencies and schools to demonstrate at the job fair to give Adams County youth the insight to different careers available to them. The youth team worked with the different school districts to bus the kids to the Adams County Youth Fair, which gave them time to learn about careers, look for employment and gain valuable resources.

Outcomes & Results

Adams County Workforce & Business Center was able to provide 246 youth the opportunity to talk with potential employers about current job opportunities as well as careers within their organization. Many businesses were able to set up interviews on site for the youth before they even left the job fair. Youth had the opportunity to visit with valuable resources and learn a little bit more about different careers.
