Power Prep Workshop: Health Care

Community Challenge/Problem

This year, Denver Workforce launched a series of intensive half-day workshops that bring talented jobseekers and prospective employers together for focused sessions in industries that offer strong potential for career success: manufacturing, health care, information technology, and hospitality/retail. Our marketing placed particular emphasis on veterans and long-term unemployed adults, but we welcomed participants of all ages/experience.

Board Solution/Innovation

In August, we developed and marketed our first free workshop for jobseekers in health care. The event featured a panel of local employers in the industry who spoke directly to what they are seeking and what kinds of skills are most valued in recruiting. The session also included one-on-one resume critique opportunities as well as specific job leads from seven major industry employers, including Kaiser Permanente, Denver Health, Children’s Hospital, and Centura Health.

Outcomes & Results

The Power Prep – Health Care session brought a higher than average participation rate (86% of those registered attended), with a total of 29 jobseekers. Of those, 28 had their resume critiqued. Post-event, 96% rated our panelists as knowledgeable and 89% would recommend these sessions to others. Although the participants had educational backgrounds ranging from GED or diploma to a masters degree, all participants rated the material and strategies presented as highly useful, particularly the interviewing skills and resume writing.
