Workforce Challenge

Healthcare offices must be up-to-date and compliant with insurance industry standards for medical coding in order to make sure payment from the insurer is rendered for procedures patients receive. As a small office, Dr. Robert Hollett, a chiropractor, did not have adequate funds to send his administrative staff to specialized training in billing, coding, and compliance. The lack of training was impacting his ability to be compensated for services performed, as patients were required to pay out of pocket.

Workforce Solution

Through the McHenry County Workforce Network, Dr. Hollett qualified for an Incumbent Worker Training Grant, which would pay for his staff to receive updated instruction in medical coding and billing.

Outcomes & Benefits

After the training, Dr. Hollett shared that it allowed his office to advocate more effectively for patients to receive medically necessary treatments that might have been denied otherwise. The patients were happy because their out-of-pocket expenses were less, and the office was able to accurately code and bill insurance companies for work performed, helping them to get paid more quickly.
