Meet Lisa

Workforce Challenge

Lisa became unemployed in 2007. She was a very hard worker and was surprised to find herself in this situation, because in the past, she always been able to find a new job whenever it was needed. However, this time was different: the economy was worse than it had ever been and jobs were hard to come by. Lisa felt that she was at the end of her rope when she came into the Arkansas Workforce Center in December 2008 to reapply for unemployment.

Workforce Solution

Lisa was referred to the WIA Program located in the Arkansas Workforce Center. The WIA Case Manager visited with her, and after determining Lisa had been actively seeking a new job but had not been successful, she helped Lisa explore career opportunities available to her.

There were jobs available in the petroleum industry at that time, and after assessment and evaluation, Lisa chose to enroll at the University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton's (UACCM’s) Petroleum Technology Program. The WIA Program paid for Lisa’s tuition, books and fees and used ARRA funds to provide supportive services.

Outcomes & Benefits

Lisa graduated in 2010 with an Associate Degree in Petroleum Technology. She is currently working in the Petroleum industry in Texas. Lisa thanked us not only for making her dreams come true and helping her to catch up, but for being more than a program. She needed someone to believe in her and give her encouragement to create a new career for herself. Congratulations, Lisa!
