Meet Michael

Workforce Challenge

Michael’s employer downsized last year and he was laid off. Michael had been with the company over 11 years. He looked for other employment for several months but was unable to find anything comparable. Even though he seemed qualified for the positions for which he applied, employers wanted someone with a college degree. Although Michael had attended college for two years after he graduated from high school, he never completed his degree. Michael heard about WIA from a friend, so he came into the Arkansas Workforce Center office to inquire about funds for finishing his degree.

Workforce Solution

Based on his prior coursework and transcripts, Michael needed five semesters of study to complete requirements for a Bachelor’s Degree in Management and Marketing at Arkansas Tech University. Michael completed the necessary assessment and paperwork and was enrolled in the WIA program, which supplied funding for tuition, books, fees and some supplies.

Outcomes & Benefits

Michael is currently attending college classes and doing well. He is excited about the opportunities that are available for a college graduate and the chance to better support his family. Good luck, Michael!
