Meet Diana

Workforce Challenge

In 2008, Diana learned that the manufacturing company where she had worked for nearly eight years was closing. As the divorced parent of a 10 year old son, she was receiving child support only sporadically, so her only real source of income was gone when her job ended. Diana had worked on the production line at her company and did not have the necessary skills or training for another job paying self-sufficient wages.

Workforce Solution

Diana met with a WIA Case Manager during the Dislocated Worker Workshop and explained her problem. She had lost another job several years earlier when the company closed and did not take the opportunity to retrain. This time, Diana wanted to go to school to learn a skill that would make her more employable and more secure. She completed all of the assessments and paperwork and was enrolled in training at the University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton (UACCM) to earn her Associate’s Degree in Accounting.

Outcomes & Benefits

Today, Diana has completed her associate's degree program and has found full-time employment. “I think WIA is a wonderful program, and if it wasn’t for the help, I wouldn’t have been able to attend college and finish," said Diana. "Plant closures are still happening and so I feel the WIA program should still help those in need."
