Meet Ashley

Workforce Challenge

Ashley was a 21-year-old full time student. She was attending Arkansas Tech University, pursuing a nursing degree, and had just over one year remaining in her program. Ashley had previously received a scholarship but it had run out since she was a fifth- year senior. She looked for a job to help pay the tuition, but she did not have the training or work experience for meaningful employment.

Workforce Solution

Ashley came into the Arkansas Workforce Center in Russellville seeking resources to help pay her expenses for her last year of study to become a registered nurse. Ashley was approved to receive funding through WIA to help cover her books, tuition, fees, testing and other supplies.

Outcomes & Benefits

The funds she received allowed Ashley to complete her training at ATU. She graduated in May, 2010, took her certification exam (NCLEX) in June, and went to work immediately as an RN. Today, Ashley continues to work full time as a registered nurse earning $18.05/hour plus benefits and pay differential for special shifts and week-ends.
