Workforce Challenge

Norm began coming to the MTC Works office of the Oregon Workforce Alliance in June, 2010. He had moved to Oregon from Washington, and had 15 years of janitorial experience. Unfortunately, he was having a hard time finding work and needed new techniques for finding open positions. He had limited computer skills and a resume that needed work.

Workforce Solution

WIA Adult/Dislocated Worker funding allowed MTC Works to help Norm build up his computer skills through various classes. In addition, Norm received an iMatch Skills account, which is a web-based tool that matches a job seeker's specific skills with available jobs that have been posted by participating employers. Norm also received assistance with reworking his resume.

Outcomes & Benefits

In December, Norm came to the office to apply for a site sanitation position with the Tillamook Cheese Factory. He knew this was a perfect fit for his experience but he had to complete an online application. The staff helped him through the process, and Norm was contacted by the employer. After having a fantastic interview, Norm was hired for the position and began working at Tillamook in February 2011.
