Meet Linda

Workforce Challenge

Linda, a mother of two, was a receptionist for a small local newspaper company. Her company had recently reduced her hours from full time to twenty hours per week. Due to this loss in much needed income, Linda was receiving unemployment benefits to supplement her part time work hours. Linda had been looking for a better paying position but was having difficulty finding one that offered her the flexibility that she needed as a mother.

Workforce Solution

Linda attended several workshops at the Portland Career Center and met with an employment counselor. Linda decided to pursue a career as a Certified Nursing Assistant. This would give her a stable full time job with benefits as well as allow her the flexibility of hours she needed. Her Employment Counselor helped her get funding for training through the Workforce Investment Act.

Outcomes & Benefits

Linda attended training at a local adult education center, passed her classes and received her C.N.A. certification. Shortly after completing training Linda obtained full time employment at a nursing home. She was grateful for the help she received and felt that without the assistance she received at the Career Center she would never have been able to succeed.
