Workforce Challenge

Kristy applied for WIA services in October, 2009, just as she was completing community service hours at City Hall in Camden, Arkansas. She really enjoyed the work and was in search of a program that would provide the training necessary for her to continue the job on a paid salary. Kristy reported upon applying that she had poor work ethics and little to no experience, so she needed some support beyond just a job placement.

Workforce Solution

Kristy was approved for the WIA program and completed employability skills courses. Through the Work Experience (ARRA -Funded) program, she was employed and trained at the Camden District Court office. She stated that this was her ideal job because she always wanted to do office and clerical work. Working in office, Kristy said, made her feel as if she had really accomplished something. While employed at the Camden District Court office, she learned filing skills, computer skills, and communication skills.

Outcomes & Benefits

"The program gave me the confidence to know that I could really achieve any goal if I have faith in my heart," said Kristy. "The personnel challenged me to find my self-worth and then gave me the tools I needed to market my abilities."

Kristy has been hired full time as a clerk for the County Assessor's office. She will continue to strive to earn pay increases to meet her income goals, "But," Kristy shared, "Every time I get a check, I am grateful."
