Meet Ginger

Workforce Challenge

Ginger grew up in a small rural community. Her parents were both alcoholics and could not hold a job. As a result, she was placed in several foster homes, and eventually dropped out of high school. She was referred to the Lane Workforce Partnership for assistance.

Workforce Solution

With support from the Workforce Investment Act program, Ginger re-enrolled in high school, worked hard to make up her credits and graduated on time. As part of the Youth WIA program, she enrolled and successfully completed the Job Corps’ Landscaping Vocational Training Program.

Outcomes & Benefits

After high school, Ginger applied for, and was accepted, into the Peace Corps. Her goal is to work in their Habitat for Humanity Program. In a letter to her workforce counselor, Ginger said, “I am so glad I came to Job Corps. I can’t thank you (and the WIA Program) enough for helping me get here. I’ve started a whole new life. When I leave I’ll be making at least $20.00 an hour, doing something I truly enjoy.”
