Workforce Challenge

Paige learned of Workforce Oklahoma's WIA Youth program in early 2010. As a college student, she was pursuing a degree in Accounting at Langston University and struggling to live on student loans, a Pell grant, and food stamps. She was searching for part time employment to help with monthly bills.

Workforce Solution

Though the WIA Youth program, Paige qualified for a summer job with the City of Langston doing clerical work for the mayor. Then, when school started up again in the fall, she applied for additional tuition assistance through the WIA Adult program. With help from her Workforce Oklahoma career guide, she qualified.

Outcomes & Benefits

Today, Paige is looking forward to graduation. She is also enjoying a good job as a tax preparer in Guthrie, Oklahoma. It is a great experience for her, and she is happy that it is directly related to her major in college.

Paige's hard work and determination is paying off. She is encouraging her younger brother and sister to pursue the education they need and to take advantage of the valuable services offered by Workforce Oklahoma.
