Meet Harold

Workforce Challenge

Harold was devastated when the employer he'd worked for for 25 years moved its operations to Mexico. A husband and father of three, he was in good health and felt he was living the American Dream. Harold was very concerned about how he'd replace the lost income and continue to provide for his family.

Workforce Solution

The Oklahoma Employment Services’ Rapid Response team reached out to Harold and invited him to come to the Workforce Center. The circumstances of his layoff made him eligible for the Trade Adjustment Act, and with help from Workforce Oklahoma, Harold enrolled in the Aircraft Maintenance Technology program at Gordon Cooper Technology Center. He entered training to become an Aircraft Mechanic in hopes of securing employment at Tinker Air Force Base.

With the collaboration of service between the Trade Adjustment Act and WIA Dislocated Worker Program, Harold received funding to attend the 18 months of training which included internship training at Tinker AFB.

Outcomes & Benefits

On Saturday, February 19th, 2011, Harold achieved his final endorsement with the Federal Aviation Administration. Having completed the training at Gordon Cooper and secured the endorsements for Airframe and Powerplant from the FAA, Harold is now eligible for the full time civil service employment that will give him even better earning potential than before - and keep his American dream intact. Good luck, Harold!
