Arkansas Workforce Center - Harrison

Meet Anne

Workforce Challenge

Anne came into the Arkansas Workforce Center in Harrison for assistance finding employment. It took several months for her to open up to the staff about her background. Anne was dealing with major personal circumstances that were holding her back. Her husband was in prison, and Anne herself had a prior felony conviction. Even further, her children had been removed from her home. She felt that if only she could find a job, she could begin to put her life back together.

Workforce Solution

Anne came in three times a week to apply for jobs that were on the job board and on Arkansas Job Link. She had a bachelor's degree, and would often get interviews from interested employers. She was even hired for one position, but was not retained once the employer completed background checks around her conviction. Anne was very discouraged, but her counselor at the Workforce Center would not let her give up hope. "Because you believed in me and encouraged me, I was able to go on," said Anne.

Outcomes & Benefits

Eventually, Anne found a job, and is now working as a bookkeeper. It is only part time, but it's a start for her. Having the support and encouragement from her Workforce Center counselor made the difference.
