Meet Charlie

Workforce Challenge

In December 2009, Charlie was laid off from a large aircraft manufacturer after more than six years of service. The local labor market for his occupation, Materials Engineering, was extremely limited, and Charlie was conducting a national search.

Workforce Solution

Central Oregon Intergovernmental Council (COIC), WorkSource Bend, supported Charlie with job search assistance and counseling while Charlie investigated job opportunities, including temporary/project work. Charlie also received temporary financial support service assistance via the WIB (Oregon Workforce Alliance) funding to cover gaps in his budget and the additional expenses of a national job search.

When Charlie received a job offer, his employment counselor assisted him with navigating the requirements of the Trade Assistance Allowance (TAA) program so that he could access the relocation benefits available.

Outcomes & Benefits

In December, 2010, Charles accepted a full-time management position with an aerospace company in California. His relocation expenses were paid through TAA benefits. Charlie says “If it were not for (his Employment Counselor) and the COIC organization, God knows where I would be.”
