Workforce Challenge

Brittany came to the Arkansas Workforce Center at Rogers in the summer of 2009 as an ARRA Summer Program participant. She was a below-poverty-level youth. Brittany, who was 16 at the time she was enrolled with WIA, was a very shy girl who didn’t know what she wanted to do with her life, let alone for a career. She was always quiet and never wanted to make important decisions.

Workforce Solution

Brittany was placed a two different worksites that summer. Her evaluations were always good, but she just wasn’t excited about the work. When she returned to participate in the summer of 2010, she asked to be put in a daycare because she loves children. The Arkansas Workforce Center of Rogers placed her at Mary’s Little Lamb Preschool in Bentonville. The first couple of days were rocky due to the noise level and the lack of control she felt she had. After the daycare director sat down with Brittany and told her to just relax and open up a little, things started falling into place. Brittany loved the job after that day and she says “I enjoy going to work every single day just to see the children’s smiling faces. It always brightens my day. I have learned so much while working at that facility.”

Outcomes & Benefits

She is now in the process of researching a Child Development Degree from an area school to help further her in her career path. From the beginning of the program to the present day, Brittany has transformed from a quiet, shy, and indecisive girl to a outgoing, independent, and determined young woman trying to make a life for herself -- all with the help of the WIA program.
